Here in the Peak District, the Christmas market season gets underway in November, straight off the back of October half term, with Chatsworth once again hosting one of the biggest and most popular Christmas markets in the area.
From grand Christmas markets at historic estates to smaller markets showcasing local makers and independent businesses, there’s a great variety of festive events taking place across the Peak District throughout November and December. While many remain free to visit, entry fees are becoming more common, so make sure you check the details before you travel.
A visit to a Christmas market is a lovely way to support local businesses, find some unusual Christmas gifts and get into the festive spirit. The markets below are listed in chronological order, making it easy to see what’s happening throughout the festive season, right through to the final markets in December, including Matlock.

Chatsworth Christmas Markets

Where better to start your Christmas shopping than at the Chatsworth Christmas Market? With over 100 market stalls offering a wide range of Christmas gifts, decorations, food and drink, it’s a great way to start the festive season.
With live music, festive food and plenty of independent traders, you’ll soon be in the Christmas spirit.
Entry to the market is free, but parking must be booked in advance. If you purchase a Christmas at Chatsworth ticket for a visit between 7th November and 13th December, access to the Christmas market is included. The market takes place in the estate’s parkland, and a tractor and trailer shuttle service runs between the parking areas and the market.
Haddon Hall’s Mercatum Winter Artisan Market

Haddon Hall’s Mercatum Winter Artisan Market returns this Christmas, with hundreds of talented makers and artisans selling everything from ceramics and jewellery to chocolates, candles and Christmas gifts.
The market takes place throughout the beautifully decorated medieval Hall, gardens and grounds, making this much more than a traditional Christmas market. There will also be food and drink stalls, live music and plenty of festive atmosphere.
Pre-booking is essential, with timed morning and afternoon sessions. There are also twilight tickets from 3pm to 4.30pm, costing £7.50 for adults and £2.50 for children, which could be a good option for a shorter visit or some last-minute Christmas shopping.
Parking is included with standard tickets, while Green Travel tickets are available for visitors arriving by bus, bike or on foot. These cost £10.50 for adults and include all-day access. If you’re walking to Haddon Hall, perhaps follow our Bakewell to Haddon Hall walk. The market takes place across historic buildings and uneven ground, so suitable footwear is recommended.

Bakewell Christmas Market weekend returns to the town centre, with stalls offering Christmas gifts, festive food and drink, and plenty of entertainment. You’ll find stalls around Market Street, Granby Road and Riverside Crescent, with local traders alongside makers and businesses from across the Peak District and Derbyshire.
The market is free to attend, but Bakewell can get very busy over the weekend, with congestion on the roads into town. If possible, consider travelling by public transport. If you’re driving, car parking is available around the town centre, with additional parking at the Agricultural Business Centre.

The Thornbridge Christmas Shopping Village

The Christmas Shopping Village returns to Thornbridge Estate across three weekends this November and December, with over 40 festive stalls featuring local makers, bakers, creatives and traders.
Alongside the shopping, you can enjoy live entertainment, mulled wine and a festive garden trail. Your garden entry ticket also includes free parking and access to Santa’s Grotto, making this a good option for a family Christmas day out.
Tickets are £8 for adults and £4 for children, with under-3s going free. Pre-book online and you’ll save 20%, although walk-in tickets are also available on the day. Dogs are welcome on leads.
Bakewell Christmas Sparkle Market

The fifth Bakewell Christmas Sparkle is back at the Bakewell Agricultural Business Centre, with a festive day out packed with local traders, food and drink, children’s activities and entertainment.
Kids can meet Father Christmas in his cosy tipi grotto, enjoy festive crafts and face painting, while there will also be animal encounters, children’s rides and musical performances. The indoor Christmas market is a great place to pick up gifts from local independent traders.
Entry is free, with parking available on the Bakewell Showground for £5 for the day. Dogs are also welcome on short leads.
Victorian Matlock Christmas Market

This fantastic festive Christmas event returns to Matlock in 2026, with plenty of festive stalls offering handcrafted and artisan goods, local produce, Christmas gifts and seasonal food.
Taking place from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th December, there will also be festive entertainment throughout the weekend, including Santa’s Grotto, fun fair rides, live music and more.
The market is free to enter, but Matlock gets very busy over the weekend, so arrive early if you can and allow extra time for parking. There is also a park-and-ride service from Rowsley South running throughout the market weekend.

Over 150 stalls fill Hall Leys Park at the Matlock Christmas Market, where you can shop for Christmas goodies, handmade gifts, local produce and festive treats.
There’s also plenty of festive entertainment throughout the weekend, including Santa’s Grotto, a Christmas Parade, fireworks and more.
The market is free to enter, but Matlock gets very busy over the Christmas market weekend, so allow plenty of time for parking. If you’re travelling by train, Hall Leys Park is just a short walk from Matlock railway station.
