Easter 2026 in the Peak District: WHAT’S ON for families

Easter in the Peak District

Easter in the Peak District is a magical time; spring is in the air, the buds are in bloom, it’s lambing season, and with the rise in temperatures and longer daylight hours, it’s a great time to get out on a family walk or family bike ride.

However, the weather can actually be quite hit or miss. The Peak District has had deep snow this time of year, yet there can also be warm and bright sunny days with your kids running around in shorts and T-shirts! As always, layers are key, and make sure you pack the wellies and hiking boots. Check out our guide for what to take to the Peak District.

Set over 24 hours, it offers a measured introduction to living outdoors together, combining practical bushcraft skills with shared challenge, comfort, and reflection.

This is not a high-adrenaline survival challenge, nor a children’s activity session adapted for adults. It is a composed, confidence-building experience in which parents and children learn side by side, guided by highly experienced instructors and supported by a calm, well-structured environment.

The emphasis throughout is on capability rather than endurance, and on creating an experience that feels purposeful, reassuring, and quietly memorable.

Suitable for families with children aged 8 and above. Younger children may be considered on a case-by-case basis following discussion with the instructional team so simply give us a call to discuss. Parents are fully involved throughout the experience. This is not a drop-off course, nor one where adults observe from the edges. The learning, responsibility, and achievement are shared.

15. Lambing at Blaze Farm

lambing at Blaze Farm, Peak District

The annual lambing experience at Blaze Farm is about seeing at first hand the wonder of a ewe giving birth to her lambs and observing how she cares and feeds her family thereafter.

Please note that there are no opportunities to feed a lamb. Baby lambs are much better off being cared for by their mother’s, which is natures way. The only lambs that are hand fed are the ‘Kade’ lambs (lambs waiting for new mummies) and they get fed by the farmers using the multi-feeder whilst they’re waiting.

However, handling of the lambs is possible. Please be calm and patient, wear a disposable apron, take a seat, and a lamb will be handed to you by one of the vet students or helpers. Wash hands thoroughly afterwards using the hand washing facilities provided (hand sanitiser is not an adequate substitute).

Please refer to the Blaze Farm website for safety information. It is recommended that you wash your wellies before entering the lambing shed. Also, if you’re pregnant or think you might be pregnant, you must not enter the lambing shed or come into close contact with any animal that is giving birth or has recently given birth. Furthermore, dogs are not allowed on the Blaze Farm nature trail in the month of April.

Once the trail is complete, participants can head to the Café, Restaurant, or RSPB shop to receive a sweet treat, with non-dairy and vegan options available. The trail is accessible and pushchair-friendly, making it ideal for families with younger children.

20. Go for a family walk

A family walk in the Peak District is really number one reason to visit the National Park, and you should at least fit in one of our family walks into your Easter holidays.

Thorpe Cloud walk
Views from the top of Thorpe Cloud, a relatively easy climb for little ones.

With hundreds of public footpaths criss-crossing the National Park and gentle rolling hills that aren’t too taxing on little legs, it’s the perfect free activity.

On this website we have over 80 family walks, including pram friendly walks and toddler walks, to more challenging walks such as Stanage Edge or Win Hill. Or you may even want to take on our Kinder Scout walk from Edale.

21. Get out on the bikes

If the weather is playing ball, Easter is an excellent time to head out on one of our Peak District cycle routes.

There are lots of old railway tracks that have been transformed into traffic free routes for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users through some of the Peak District’s most spectacular limestone dales.  As these are traffic free and relatively flat, they’re a great place to go for a family bike ride.

Plus, there are also some lovely routes around the reservoirs (including Ladybower cycle route and Carsington cycle route), although kids will need bikes with gears for these ones.

Below are our top tried and tested Peak District family bike routes. Though remember, you don’t have to do the whole route, you can always cut it short for tired legs.
